Assignment Duration

The intended start date for the project is 01/07/2026, and the contract’s implementation period will extend over up to 48 months from this date.

Location :

The primary place of operation will be Chisinau, Republic of Moldova. Travel within Moldova may be necessary.

About the Assignment:

The Media Sector Manager will contribute to strengthening independent media ecosystems, citizen engagement, and socially cohesive public discourse. The position will support collaboration between media actors, civil society organisations, and public institutions to enhance accountability, dialogue, and inclusive participation.

Project Description:

Funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), this vital initiative is designed to bolster social cohesion, democratic governance, and inclusive nation-building in Moldova.

The project aims to empower civil society organisations and mass media to function as agents of accountability, cohesion, and transformation, using citizens’ priorities as entry points.

The overarching goal is to contribute to a resilient and inclusive Moldovan society by strengthening citizen participation, accountability mechanisms, and the sustainability of civil society and independent media, particularly at the local level.

Media Sector Manager Profile:

Qualifications and skills

  • Higher education qualification in journalism, media studies, communication, social sciences, governance, public administration, or a related field
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to work effectively with media organisations, civil society actors, and public institutions
  • Strong analytical skills related to media development, information ecosystems, and public discourse.

General professional experience

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in areas such as: media development, journalism, communications, civil society engagement, governance or social cohesion programmes

Specific professional experience

  • Strong knowledge of the media landscape in Moldova, including independent media actors and information ecosystems
  • Experience working with journalists, media outlets, media support organisations, or media development programmes
  • Experience supporting dialogue, collaboration, or joint initiatives between civil society and media
  • Experience contributing to donor-funded programmes or projects is considered an asset
  • Understanding of media literacy, responsible journalism, or countering disinformation is an advantage
  • Good understanding of Moldova’s political, social, and institutional context

Language requirements

  • Fluency in English, Romanian, and Russian
