About the Assignment:
Seize the opportunity to play a pivotal role in Kenya’s communication transformation. This project offers a platform for strategic communication professionals to shape the narrative of the EU’s partnership with Kenya. Based in Nairobi, with nationwide campaign activities, you will develop and implement data-driven, value-centric, and creative public awareness campaigns under the Global Gateway umbrella. Project Description:
Funded by the European Union, this vital initiative is designed to bolster the EU’s visibility and positioning in Kenya through a strategic, campaign-driven communication model. The project aims to measurably increase awareness and improve perceptions of the EU’s role in Kenya by engaging diverse audiences, particularly young people, via both online and offline channels. The overarching goal is to position the EU as a trusted and preferred partner for Kenya under the Global Gateway strategy.
Expert Profiles:
The expert team will demonstrate proven capacity in large-scale communication campaigns, creative content production, media relations, digital strategy, and campaign performance monitoring across Kenya. Experts will contribute to reporting in line with EU Delegation standards, including performance-based monitoring (KPI framework), yearly implementation reviews, and public perception impact assessment.
- Experts
1.1. Team Leader / Strategic Communication Campaign Manager (Full-time)
Qualifications and skills
- Master’s degree in communication, media studies, political science, international relations, or a related field.
- Proven diplomatic and leadership skills to engage effectively with EU officials and Kenyan stakeholders.
- Excellent command of English; Swahili is an asset.
General professional experience
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience in strategic communication or public affairs, preferably in international cooperation or public diplomacy contexts.
Specific professional experience
- At least 5 years managing large-scale, multi-channel communication campaigns in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Proven experience with campaign strategy development, KPI frameworks, media buying, and influencer outreach.
- Experience working on EU-funded or multilateral donor projects preferred.
1.2. Creative Content & Digital Engagement Lead (Part-time)
Qualifications and skills
- Relevant degree in digital marketing, graphic design, communications, or visual media.
- Fluency in digital platforms and content creation tools.
General professional experience
- Minimum 7 years of experience in creative digital campaigns and audience targeting.
Specific professional experience
- At least 3 years leading creative content strategy for youth-driven or development-focused campaigns in Africa.
- Demonstrated experience in selecting and managing social media influencers in Kenya for public awareness or development-focused campaigns
- Strong track record in producing engaging visual/audio content (ads, reels, campaign kits, influencer materials).
1.3. Media Relations & Outreach Specialist (Part-time)
Qualifications and skills
- Degree in journalism, PR, or communications.
- Strong writing and pitching skills.
General professional experience
- At least 8 years of experience working in media or media liaison roles.
Specific professional experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience managing press relations and strategic media engagement for donor-funded projects in East Africa.
